ROLE OF LUNCH BUNCH VOLUNTEERS

Thank you for volunteering for Lunch Bunch. For those of you who are unsure of your role as a lunch bunch volunteers, below is a description of your duties. The administration may change our duties at any time; any changes will be communicated via email.

When you arrive for Lunch Bunch duty, sign in at the office and proceed to the cafeteria. Lunch Bunch aprons will be hanging on a hook in the cafeteria. Please wear an apron so the students will know you are there to help. You can restock your apron with napkins, straws & silverware as required. Please do not take any condiments. The children are expected to get what they need while going through the line. If they forget, they can return to the cashier for assistance.

The children will raise their hands if they need assistance or additional supplies (usually napkins, silverware, help opening something in their lunch box, etc). To develop their independence, ask the child to show you how he/she tried to open the package first. If you open a condiment package for someone, please let that child apply it to his/her own food.

The children will attempt to clear and clean their own table. Please assist them so the table will be clean for the following class.

Please visit with your child at some time other than your volunteer shift. The lunch monitors (teachers & other staff) are relying on us to assist ALL students. Please circulate between the tables to make sure you can see the little ones’ hands.

If a student wishes to go the bathroom, refer him/her to a teacher. Please do not bring siblings unless he/she is accompanied by another adult.

AT NO TIME should a volunteer take a disciplinary role with the students. If you feel there is a problem that needs attention, please advise one of the staff lunchroom monitors.

On Fridays, one volunteer will sell ice cream while others assist the students. Please follow these guidelines when selling ice cream:

  • All ice cream is 50¢ (US currency only)
  • Students are not allowed to borrow money from each other (allergy potential)
  • Students are not allowed to buy ice cream for each other (again, allergies)
  • Please do not allow any child (including your own) to reach into the freezer
  • Please do not allow your child(ren) to come behind the freezer with you
  • If working 3rd shift, please return the money box to Ms. Kim after your shift

A gentle reminder to any offenders should be adequate.

After you finish your shift, return the apron to the hook on the door and sign out in the office.

If you find that you are unable to attend an assigned shift, please try to find a replacement from the substitute list or by swapping with another scheduled volunteer. Obviously, some last minute emergencies come up, so don’t panic if you can’t find a substitute. The staff in the lunchroom will notice that you are not there and attend to the children. If you have any further questions or concerns, please call Tina Wilkinson at 678-395-6965 or email tinaw@wilkinsons.com.
